The RagaMuffin
There have been rumours and speculation circulating within the Ragdoll community regarding the RagaMuffin. The following should clarify the situation:
We have been dedicated to the breeding and preservation of the Ragdoll breed for 8 years and have recently become more and more concerned about the use of the breed by undesireable breeders outcrossing to many different breeds and producing variant kittens without any goal or thought to what they are doing to the Ragdoll.
In recent months we have noticed that adverts have appeared in cat magazines and various online classifieds claiming that RagaMuffin kittens are being produced at a low cost when in fact the kittens being produced are nothing more than variants!!! We have laso heard of breeders putting unregistered Ragdolls to Siberians and claiming that THOSE kittens are RagaMuffins too.
The RagaMuffin is a bona fide breed in itself and although still rare, is recognised by most Cat Registration bodies throughout the world. At this point in time the GCCF do not recognise the breed which is giving the breeders of the variants free range to do whatever they want and call the offspring that they are producing whatever they want.
We here at Jomanei are determined to protect the Ragdoll as well as the RagaMuffin and as such are working with a group of experienced breeders so that they are both protected against unscrupulous breeding practices that could adversely affect both breeds in the UK.
By importing and promoting the 'Authentic' RagaMuffin in the UK, producing strict registration & breeding policies along with a Standard of Points and by seeking recognition of the RagaMuffin name with the GCCF, we feel that this is the way forward to ensure that the two breeds, although having a common ancestry are in fact two separate and completely different breed of cat.
(NB. At this time all Authentic RagaMuffins available for purchase in the UK will be registered with the ACFA; The American Cat Fanciers Association)
For many years, because of our love of the Ragdoll and it's origins, the RagaMuffin has also been a source of interest and it is for this reason, having found some spare time in our lives, we decided to fulfill our ambition to import the breed into the UK.
We are, and sure many others will be, captivated by the wide spectrum of the coat and eye colour that can be produced and along with that wonderful laid back Rag temperament we hope that we can produce, in our opinion, the purrrrrfect feline as well as preserving the Ragdoll as a BLUE EYED, COLOURPOINTED cat that we all know and love.
The groups first 'Muffin' will be arriving in December 2008 and is a solid blue with white. The next group will be arriving in early Spring 2009. Colours included will be Mink, Dominant and Dilute Torties, Silver Tabbies and Smokes.
